Series preview: Pirates at Rockies

The Rockies seem to have lost their momentum. Heading into the All-Star break, they won 8-of-10 games and were in second place — two games back — behind the Padres in the NL West. Since then, they’ve lost 7-of-9, including six straight, and have fallen to fourth in the division — eight games back. The Pirates also are on a skid, but what else is new? Colorado is 31-16 at home and are expected to get shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (fractured wrist) back for today’s series opener.

Did you know?Among all major league teams, the Pirates are in the last five in batting average (.242), slugging percentage (.367), RBIs (332), home runs (68), runs (344), hits (792), ERA (5.03), errors (73), double plays turned (76) and fielding percentage (.980). … Pittsburgh first baseman Garrett Jones leads the team in hits (99), RBIs (56) and home runs (12).
