GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Cheyenne Mountain 77, Sierra 58

At Cheyenne Mountain: Amanda Weber scored 31 points – including seven 3-pointers – for the Indians. Teammate Janae Vander Ploeg chipped in 19 points, and the Indians (13-2) took a 40-25 halftime lead. Sierra (5-11) was led by Chelsea Barrett’s 18 points and Makayla Davis’ 13 points.

 

Palmer 55, Pine Creek 44

At Palmer: Down by three points, the Terrors (11-3) went on a 16-2 run after sophomore Taylor Torres hit a 3-pointer with 3:29 left. Palmer’s Kim Beard led all scorers with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Beth McCarthy picked up 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (9-5).

 

Colorado Springs Christian School 42, Manitou Springs 28

At Manitou Springs: Senior post Brianne Vande Griend scored 13 of her 14 points in the second half as the Lions (12-0) got their offense going.

“We both started out a little slow and it was only 16-10 at halftime,” CSCS coach Lisa Guhl said. “Manitou was playing tough defense and it took us until the fourth quarter to kind of get rolling.”

Amelia Schofield’s eight points led the Mustangs (5-8), while Ashley Echeandia added six.

 

Air Academy 71, Coronado 28

At Air Academy: Ten different players had a basket for Air Academy, which outscored Coronado 21-4 in the third quarter. Ciana Neely’s seven points led the Cougars (2-13), while Erin Todd (13 points), Miranda Beal (10 points), Tori Reifschneider (12 points) and Sarah Schweiss (11 points) were in double digits for the Kadets (13-1).

 

Falcon 52, Wasson 24

At Falcon: Shelby Goniea scored 15 to lead the Falcons (11-4), who outscored the Thunderbirds (0-12) by 14 points in the third quarter.

 

Harrison 56, Woodland Park 45

At Harrison: Nikkita Lester scored 23 points for Harrison (11-5), which also saw production from Nicole Herrera (11 points) and Charron Johnson (10 points). Tessie Koziol scored 16 for Woodland Park (4-11).

 

Simla 78, Pikes Peak Christian 37

At Simla: Brianna Euken’s 21 points couldn’t save the Eagles (2-9), who were outscored by 19 points in the third quarter.

 

Lewis-Palmer 44, Castle View 31

At Castle View: Liz Campbell’s 16 points and four steals led the Rangers (6-10), who were also helped by Morgan Griffin’s nine points.

 

Fountain-Fort Carson 65, Rampart 60

At Fountain-Fort Carson: The Trojans (12-3) outscored the Rams 12-7 in overtime as Renata Rankin finished with 14 points and Yahna Harris recorded 22 rebounds. Rampart (6-9) was led by Katie Londo’s 16 points and Kelly Hillick’s 13 points.

 

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Air Academy 54, Coronado 44

At Coronado: It all came down to free throw accuracy for the Kadets (3-12).

“It was a two-point game with about a minute left when we started fouling them,” Coronado coach Brian Blanc said. “It’s a credit to them, they just kept hitting those free throws.”

Led by Parker Price’s 19 points, Air Academy was 10-13 from the line and outscored the Cougars 18-9 in the final quarter.

“We hit seven straight free throws, and that made the difference,” Kadets coach Barry Clark said. “We had some nice play inside, too, and really beat them up with post play.”

Ben Foley scored a game-high 23 points for Coronado (7-8).

 

Lewis-Palmer 67, Castle View 48

At Lewis-Palmer: The Rangers outscored Castle View 25-9 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead.

“We had been playing pretty evenly in the second but we just tightened things up with shot selection in the third,” Lewis-Palmer coach Russ McKinstry said. “Josh (Scott) and Kyle (Engelhardt) had a great game, and we got some really nice defense from Brandon Lane.”

Engelhardt finished with 29 points, and Scott scored 21 for Lewis-Palmer (12-4). Ryan Lata’s 21 points led Castle View (9-6).

 

Doherty 76, Liberty 64

At Liberty: Doherty’s Tyler Velasquez led all scorers with 30 points as Doherty (10-5) saw production from 10 different players. TJ Holt and Wes McKenzie each chipped in 19 points for Liberty (6-7).

 

Palmer 73, Pine Creek 52

At Pine Creek: Terrell Brown scored 23 points while Dominic Rufran and Jalen Little each added 10 for the Terrors (10-5). Pine Creek (2-13) was led by Josh Gee’s 14 points and Alex Cannon’s 11 points.

 

Falcon 57, Wasson 56

At Wasson: Deven Bernett scored 26, but the Thunderbirds (6-7) couldn’t hang onto a 26-19 halftime lead. Falcon (6-9) was lead by Paul Rotering’s 21 points and Kendall Godley’s 12 points.

 

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Harrison 92, Wasson 90

At Wasson: The Thunderbirds couldn’t hold off the visiting Panthers, but both teams made progress at a critical point in the season.

“I think everyone is just focused on league and they’re swimming pretty tired right now,” Wasson coach Julie Kutsner said. “We haven’t started taking any of the yardage off yet, so this is pretty much as tired as they will be.”

Wasson’s Kellie Ashby won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races, while teammate Jordan Eisel won the 500 free. Harrison’s Alyssa Mlodzik won the 200 freestyle, and took part in the winning 200 and 400 free relays.

 

Rampart 100, Lewis-Palmer 86

At Rampart: The Rams swept the relays and surrendered only the diving and backstroke events to the Rangers. Lewis-Palmer’s Alex Claude won the 100 backstroke, while divers Kathryn Kimball and Chandler Marshall claimed the top two spots. Rampart’s Jenna Gregoire (50 and 100 free), Ashley Fuchs (200 and 500 free), Kyrene Clarke (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), and Carli Snyder (100 butterfly) each won individual races and participated in winning relays.

 

HOCKEY

Ralston Valley 6, Pine Creek 0

At Apex West Rink: Five third-period goals lifted Ralston Valley, which was led by two goals from Kyle Bennett. Pine Creek goaltender Chris Dylewski made 42 saves.
