Downtown Colorado Springs street open after rollover crash

Police investigated a rollover crash and searched for an alleged hit-and-run driver Wednesday east of downtown Colorado Springs, said spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley.

The crash was first reported about 7:30 a.m. when a gray Pontiac collided with a white Jeep Cherokee on the 200 block of East Kiowa Street, in front of the City Auditorium.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured and was released by emergency responders at the scene, Buckley said.

The driver of the Pontiac, whose identity was not released, fled the scene and the Colorado State Patrol located the vehicle about 7:45 a.m. abandoned on Interstate 25 south of the Circle Drive exit, Buckley said.

East Kiowa Street was closed at North Weber Street until about 10 a.m.
