Driver caught at 139 mph near Colorado Springs provides typical excuse: Officials

An El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputy clocked a speeder traveling at 139 mph on U.S. 24 east of Colorado Springs on Aug. 15.

The driver, pulled over near Falcon, then provided the excuse of being “late for work,” according to the Sheriff’s Office. Most of U.S. 24 in the Colorado Springs area has a speed limit of 55 mph.

As a result of the alleged speeding, the driver faces a mandatory court appearance with a 32-point citation.

This case of speeding comes days after a motorcyclist was caught traveling 120 mph in the Denver metro area and had to be chased down by helicopter.
