Driver suspected of DUI takes down traffic lights at large Colorado Springs intersection Sunday night

A major intersection in east Colorado Springs has reopened after a serious traffic crash Sunday night, police said.

According to police, southbound and northbound Powers Boulevard was closed into early Monday morning after a crash occurred at the intersection of Powers and Palmer Park boulevards around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The intersection was then closed all four ways as crews repaired traffic lights, police said.

Police told Gazette news partner KKTV that a person suspected of driving while under the influence crashed into the lights and was taken to the hospital.

The nature of the driver’s injuries are unknown, KKTV reported.
