BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Fountain-Fort Carson 75, Liberty 65At Fountain-Fort Carson: Wes McKenzie’s game-high 32 points couldn’t save the Lancers (9-10), who rallied to score 26 in the final quarter. The Pikes Peak 5A-4A No. 5 Trojans (16-3) were led by Mitchell Lewis’ 17 points, while Chris Davis and Martin Thomas each added 16.

“We came out flat and started 1-for-14 from the field,” said Fountain-Fort Carson coach Anthony Ribaudo, who received a technical in the last minutes of play. “Mitchell Lewis came off the bench for us and gave us that good spark we needed.”

Palmer 71, Air Academy 48At Palmer: Terrell Brown scored 18 points and Jalen Little tacked on 16 to lead the 5A-4A No. 4 Terrors (15-5).

Zach Gehler finished with 14 for Air Academy (4-16) and teammate Parker Price chipped in 12.

Cheyenne Mountain 58, Widefield 44At Cheyenne Mountain: The Indians (13-8) jumped to a nine-point lead in the first quarter and kept the momentum.

Geoff Pippus led Cheyenne Mountain with 16 points, while Raymond Canty of Widefield (14-8) finished with nine.

Wasson 65, Mitchell 53At Mitchell: Some effective rebounding allowed the Thunderbirds (9-9) to erase Mitchell’s early 9-0 lead.

“We started out really slowly but were just able to cut down that lead by buckling down on defense,” Wasson coach Damion Copeland said. “We just started crashing the boards a little and we were jumping the dribble really well.”

Wasson’s Deven Bernett led all scorers with 25 points, while Mon’Darrius Benson finished with 18 for Mitchell (12-9).

Pine Creek 67, Coronado 59At Coronado: Led by Devin Kastrup’s 22 points, the Eagles (3-17) held onto their nine-point halftime lead.

Michael Allen’s 21 points led the Cougars (8-12).

Karval 54, Elbert 49 (2OT) At Elbert: Karval (16-1) outscored Elbert (12-3) by five in the final overtime to seal the win.

Dawson Weber scored 14 for Elbert, while Travis Hutchens added 12.

Falcon 79, Harrison 53At Falcon: Good defense allowed the Falcon offense – led by Jared Wilson’s 23 points and Paul Rotering’s 20 points – to break through.

“For the first time in a long time we played good, full-court defense,” Falcon coach Doug Ravasdy said. “We were in control from start to finish.”

Evangelical Christian Academy 60, Vanguard 19At ECA: Zach Plating and Trevor McFarland each scored 15 for the Eagles (11-5), while Vanguard (4-12) was led by Tim Force’s 10 points.

 

GIRLS’ BASKETBALLEvangelical Christian Academy 62, Vanguard 23At ECA: Ellen Brandenstein’s 19 points led the Eagles (13-3), who jumped to a 33-8 halftime lead.

Vanguard (10-7) was led by Ally Callahan’s eight points.

Cheyenne Mountain 55, Widefield 37At Cheyenne Mountain: Amanda Weber’s 24 points led the 5A-4A No. 4 Indians (17-3), who were able to preserve their 12-point first-quarter lead.

Majana McCollum scored 11 for the Gladiators (15-7).

Mesa Ridge 64, Woodland Park 17At Mesa Ridge: Kaitlyn Mileto’s 16 points and LaShai Powells’ 15 points led the 5A-4A No. 2 Grizzlies (19-2), who jumped to a 31-11 halftime lead over the Panthers (4-17).

Sand Creek 37, Doherty 36At Doherty: The Scorpions (11-9) outscored the Spartans (10-11)  by six in the final quarter to take control.

Taylor Proctor led Sand Creek with 10 points, while Alexis Cooks and Taylor Simpson each scored eight for Doherty.

Lewis-Palmer 47, Sierra 38At Sierra: Kai Brown’s 13 points and eight rebounds led the Rangers (9-12), who also got 12 points and eight rebounds from Liz Campbell.
