Busy night for police on city’s southeast side

Fights involving guns outside three businesses in the South Academy Boulevard corridor between Airport Road and Hancock Expressway kept Colorado Springs police busy early today.

About 1:40 a.m. a man was shot in the leg in the parking lot of Golden Cue Bar, 2790 Hancock Expressway, police said. The gunman fled when police arrived and was not caught.

The victim, whose name and condition was not available, was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Shortly before 2 a.m., police headed to a disturbance outside El Emperio, 550 S. Academy Blvd., and found multiple shell casings in the parking lot.

Club security guards told police that people in a small red car were firing off rounds from a handgun in the parking lot.

When confronted by security guards, a gunman pointed his weapon at a guard, who fired three shots at the red car.

The red car sped off and eluded police.

Just before that incident, police were called to a disturbance involving a gun at the Casa Grande club at 2491 S. Academy Blvd., near the intersection with Astrozon Boulevard.

Police don’t think the two nightclub disturbances were related.

Police Lt. Elden Stromer said while it was a busy night, he didn’t think the rash of disturbances around closing time  was unusual.
