The Fountain Police Department is looking for thieves who have been stealing from cars since early October, lifting purses, cell phones and firearms from unlocked cars.

Police said there were 56 break-ins in Fountain dating back to Oct. 3, and officers are looking for suspects between the ages of 15 and 25. The suspects are likely to be Fountain residents, police said. In a news release, Lt. Tommy Coates said the thefts were crimes of opportunity on streets and cars picked at random. Since the holiday shopping season kicks off on Friday, Coates urged people to lock their cars and not leave valuables inside, or at least record the serial number and model of firearms left inside cars.
