El Paso County commissioner candidate forum is Tuesday

Voters will get a chance to question the candidates for the El Paso County commissioner District 2 seat at a candidate forum in Peyton on Tuesday night.

The forum, hosted by the political organization Liberty First and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Republicans, will start at 6:30 p.m. in the High Prairie Library meeting room, at 7035 Old Meridian Road.

Mark Waller, a former state legislator, Tim Geitner and Sherrie Gibson are competing for the seat occupied by Amy Lathen, who is term limited.

The forum will be short and informal, said David Kelly, who runs Liberty First. Candidates will be given three minutes to make an opening statement, which will be followed by a question and answer session.

People with questions will be asked to keep them to 30 seconds, Kelly said. Questions will not be submitted beforehand and will be asked directly to the candidates.

The library meeting room has a maximum capacity of 35 people.

Depending on turnout and feedback on Tuesday’s forum, Kelly said his group might host forums for the two other commissioner seats up for election, District 3 and District 4.

Kelly said that he would welcome feedback on Tuesday’s forum by email at david@libertasprimoris.org.
