An 83-year-old Colorado Springs resident with early signs of dementia has been missing since Friday and his family is asking for the public’s help to find him.

Albert Tumblin left his home in eastern Colorado Springs about 2:30 p.m. Friday heading toward the Chase Bank branch on Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway and told his family that he was stopping at the store.

That was the last time his wife of 49 years, Helen Tumblin, saw him.

“The thing about Albert is that one moment he is perfectly lucid and the next he has no idea what’s going on,” Helen Tumblin said Monday. “He has really high blood pressure and he hasn’t taken his medication in more than three days so I am very worried about him.”

According to family members, Albert Tumblin was pulled over by Colorado Springs police about 4 a.m. Saturday near Academy Boulevard and Vickers Drive on suspicion of DUI, but the officer determined he was not under the influence and let him go.

Albert Tumblin’s family filed a missing persons report that morning at 9 a.m. and got word that a Colorado State trooper helped him fix a flat tire in Logan County near the border with Nebraska about 6 a.m. Sunday.

“The trooper reported that Albert was fine and just needed help fixing the tire, so he let him go on his way; he had no reason to detain him,” Helen Tumblin said. “Albert even tried to help the trooper so he wouldn’t get his uniform dirty, the state patrol told me.”

Helen Tumblin said she did not know why her husband had traveled in that direction.

There have been no further sightings of Albert Tumblin or leads on his possible whereabouts since Sunday morning, and his wife said waiting for news has gotten harder as the hours pass.

“He has no medication, no change of clothes, I don’t even know where he’s sleeping, or if he’s eating,” Helen Tumblin said. “His blood pressure was so high last time his doctor checked, they were afraid he would have a stroke. I am worried sick about him.”

Albert Tumblin was last seen driving a 2009 silver Kia Rio with Colorado license plate 638 VTX. He was wearing a brown suede shirt, black pants, white tennis shoes and a gray baseball cap with the words “Vietnam Vet” and an American flag inscribed on the side.
