Suspected DUI hit-and-run in Pueblo kills 1, leads to arrest
An overnight hit-and-run in Pueblo has killed a pedestrian, according to the city’s police department.
Officers from the Pueblo Police Department arrived at the 600 block of West Northern Avenue just after 2:15 a.m. Tuesday and found the pedestrian dead at the scene. A witness told police that they had followed the vehicle that sped off.
The officers located the vehicle a couple of blocks away from the incident, and then they found the driver walking nearby.
Dahir Ortiz Espinoza, 25, was arrested and taken into custody on a vehicular homicide charge, DUI, reckless driving and more.
He is being held at the Pueblo County jail, records show.
The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity at a later time.
According to police, the incident marked the ninth traffic fatality in the city this year. It was the third one that involved a pedestrian.
