GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — Interstate 70 in Garfield County is closed in both directions due to a brush fire in the area, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

The closure, just west of Glenwood Springs, is between U.S. 6 (Chacra) and Exit 114 (West Glenwood), according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Crews have not provided an estimated time for reopening, KOAA reported.

CDOT is encouraging commuters to use the northern alternate route—a two-hour-long detour.

According to KOAA, Westbound traffic can exit at Silverthorne and travel north on Colorado 9 to U.S. 40, then west to Craig. From Craig, take Colorado 13 south to Rifle and back on I-70.

Eastbound traffic will need to exit at Rifle and take the same route in the other direction.

The fire, called the Paradise fire, has grown to an estimated 8-10 acres.

The Glenwood Springs Fire Department said that approximately 44 firefighters are working to stop the fire’s spread in steep, rocky terrain.
