Dig into fossils, crystals and jewelry at the 62nd Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show
From glittering gemstones to dinosaur-era fossils, the 62nd Pikes Peak Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show is ready to rock Colorado Springs once again.
This weekend, the Norris Penrose Event Center is about to get a little more sparkly, with dozens of vendors and hands-on activities under one roof at 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road.
Sponsored by the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society during its 90th anniversary, the three-day event will feature over 50 vendors specializing in gems, fossils, meteorites, crystals, sculptures and handcrafted jewelry from Colorado and beyond.
At the event, attendees can browse everything from natural minerals to polished stones and metaphysical pieces while learning about geology.
According to organizers, proceeds from the annual show help fund local undergraduate scholarships in Earth science-related fields.
“Our goal is to promote and disseminate knowledge of Earth sciences, especially as they relate to mineralogy, lapidary and fossils,” show chair Lisa Cooper said. “We encourage the steady collection and fashioning of minerals, and we do this through social meetings, lectures, programs, displays, shows and field trips.”
In addition to shopping opportunities, guests can participate in daily 11 a.m. beading classes and a 1 p.m. wire-wrapping class on Saturday, while activities for younger attendees include gold panning and scavenger hunts.
A mobile lapidary shop will also be on-site to cut and polish rocks brought by visitors.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 per day or $8 for multiple days, while children 12 and under get in free.
