Local galleries welcome June with fresh First Friday exhibits

PIKES PEAK PLEIN AIR PAINTERS SUMMER EXHIBITION: Woodland Park will host the second annual Pikes Peak Plein Air Painters Summer Exhibition throughout June, showcasing landscape works inspired by the Pikes Peak area. Featuring regional artists including Michael Gault, Julie Cutting and Ken Hartman, the exhibit highlights Colorado’s scenery, with a gala reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, 400 W. “WHAT KIND OF BROWN ARE YOU?”: Dillavou Curation will host “What Kind of Brown Are You?,” a free pop-up exhibition exploring identity through multimedia work from rotating artists of color. The artists featured include Kenny Idleman, Chloe Kelly, Estavon Medina and more, with the showcase open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 514 S. Tejon St. 

“THE WOODS”: Commonwheel Artists Co-op will present “The Woods,” a group exhibition featuring photography, paintings, wood burnings and ceramic art inspired by forests, wilderness and the restorative power of nature. Tylan Troyer, David Pinto, Maggie Quinn and Sheila Fuller’s artwork will be on display through June 29, with a free opening reception in Manitou Springs from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, 102 Cañon Ave.; commonwheel.com

“HEAR/SAY”: Cottonwood Center for the Arts will host “Hear/Say,” a June exhibition presented by the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine exploring public health, cannabis use and marginalized perspectives. The exhibit invites viewers to reflect on personal testimony, research and social stigma, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, 427 E.
