Up this week: Irish pubs.

Gold: Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub & Restaurant 

Upon opening in 1998, Jack Quinn’s managed to preserve one of downtown’s oldest buildings while also transforming it into a hangout you’d find in Ireland. Patrons continue to show their appreciation. A weekly running club gathers for a pint, while others come for Celtic bands. And they come for grub ー fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage and all. 21 S. Tejon St.

Silver: Abby’s Irish Pub 

It’s a cozy home away from home for folks on the north side. Maybe home isn’t the Emerald Isle, but they taste it here. The menu boasts the authentic likes of boxties, colcannon bites, soda bread and the full Irish breakfast. Then there’s the unexpected likes of Irish nachos. 9697 Prominent Point 

Bronze: The Brit Pub 

Complete with several imported ales and jerseys, scarves and pennants, the two-level entry has a sporty feel ー fitting here steps away from Weidner Field. The vibe upstairs, meanwhile, is loungey. Welcome to “your second living room,” as the owner from England has called it, while inviting all to Sunday roasts. 645 S. Sierra Madre St., Suite 100

Our recommendation: Alchemy 

In Old Colorado City, this little Irish pub is “not just a pub,” according to the sign above the door. Yes, you can get your Jameson and Guinness. But you can also get a unique cocktail or craft beer to pair with elevated fare like seared duck with strawberry rhubarb compote. We loved the curry chips and Reuben poppers at last visit. 2625 W.
