Colorado Springs to see increase in train traffic as Fort Carson soldiers leave
The Colorado Springs area will see an increase in trains carrying military vehicles and equipment through the middle of July as Fort Carson soldiers travel to California for training.
Drivers can expect delays at the railroad crossing near B Street and Crestridge Avenue in the Stratmoor Hills neighborhood, Fort Carson said in a news release.
As trains pass, the railroad crossing could be closed for one to two hours at a time, the release said.
About 20 trains are expected to move through the community every other day starting Tuesday through July 15, and drivers are encouraged to find an alternative route.
“These rail operations are crucial for maintaining the readiness of our forces. The 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson (are) grateful for the public’s continued cooperation and support,” the news release said.
Fort Carson soldiers are on their way to the National Training Center in California’s Mojave Desert, where they are expected to continue testing new communications technology that could be introduced across the Army.
