Ex-Broncos QB Russell Wilson to join CBS Sports as NFL analyst, report says

Russell Wilson is moving from the sideline to the TV studio.

The 14-year NFL quarterback — who started 30 career games for the Broncos (2022-23) — has accepted an offer to become an NFL analyst for CBS Sports on their Sunday pregame show, according to media reports.

Wilson has not announced his retirement with NFL Network describing it as “at least a pause on his playing career.” CBS Sports did not make a formal announcement Monday.

In 2022, the Broncos traded for the ex-Seahawks quarterback and signed Wilson to a five-year, $245-million extension. Yet his NFL pedigree as a Super Bowl champion with Seattle did not translate to team success in Denver.

The Broncos went 5-12 and fired coach Nathaniel Hackett in Wilson’s first season as a starter. He was later benched by coach Sean Payton. The Broncos took on a dead cap hit of $85 million to release Wilson in March 2024.

Wilson went 11-19 as a starter in Denver. He threw for 6,594 yards with 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He also got sacked 100 times over that span.

Wilson bounced from the Steelers to the Giants and lost his starting job both times. Wilson reportedly had an offer to be the Jets’ backup quarterback this season. However, at least for now, it appears he will transition to a media role.

Wilson is expected to replace Matt Ryan at CBS Sports after the ex-Falcons quarterback got hired as team president of football in Atlanta. Wilson, 37, is a 10-time Pro Bowler who has thrown for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns over his NFL career.
