1 dead after shooting on Pueblo’s east side
An early afternoon shooting in Pueblo on Monday left one person dead near the 2100 block of Oakshire Lane, according to a news release by police.
The department’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire shortly before several calls were made to 911 about a gunshot victim.
“A vehicle involved in the incident” was stopped in the 1500 block of Constitution Road so emergency responders could transport the victim, who was in the passenger seat, to a hospital.
The victim was later pronounced deceased.
The shooting was a few blocks from East High School, prompting officials from Pueblo District 60 and Pueblo police to secure its perimeter.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once proper notifications are made.
There have been nine homicides in Pueblo so far this year, four more than this time last year.
