State officials issue air quality health advisory for southern Colorado counties
An air quality health advisory has been issued for El Paso, Teller, Pueblo and eastern Fremont counties Saturday, according to state officials.
Colorado’s Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) issued the advisory for 2-8 p.m. after an intrusion of ozone from high in the atmosphere, according to a page on the department’s website.
CDPHE officials say there will be an increased likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort in active children and adults and people with lung diseases, such as asthma.
The department recommends the public to reduce prolonged or heavy outdoors exertion, especially for air-quality-sensitive groups.
As of 2:45 p.m., pollution was at a moderate level in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) map.
