3. San Francisco Giants at Rockies (6:40 p.m. Friday, MLB.tv) — The annual June swoon is now the May fade with the Rockies showing only six wins in the month entering Saturday.

May 24, 1966 — The late Tony Jones, a starting offensive tackle for the Broncos in Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII, was born in Royston, Georgia. He died in his home state in 2021.

Final word

Talk about a favorable bargaining position. While he already was expected to set NHL records with his contract extension, Cale Makar now can flat-out name his price. Without the superstar defenseman, the Avalanche is a shell of the team that claimed the Presidents’ Trophy. His value has never been higher. The Denver Gazette’s Evan Rawal believes Makar will sign an eight-year deal at $15 million or $16 million per. That’s some serious bread. Colorado’s 0-2 deficit in the Western Conference finals suggests he’s worth it.
