An 18-year veteran of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office was sentenced to three years of probation on Friday for misusing union funds from his coworkers, according to a news release by the agency.

Jason Hanratty, 44, pleaded guilty to felony theft after he diverted $17,000 from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7 to his personal account.

The former sergeant resigned on April 15, 2025, and was arrested on June 30 after an independent investigation, the release states. At the time of his arrest, he was also the vice president of the local FOP.

In addition to probation, Hanratty was ordered to pay restitution to his victims and the FOP.

This case is the first criminal court case against Hanratty in Colorado, according to court records.

Hanratty remains a certified law enforcement officer in the Centennial State, according to the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). State records show he is not currently employed with any law enforcement agency.

There are no other formal disciplinary actions listed in Hanratty’s POST profile.
