Broncos sign fourth-round picks Jonah Coleman, Kage Casey; Reed Burckhardt gets another Vikings interview
The Broncos are down to one unsigned draft pick.
Running back Jonah Coleman and offensive lineman Kage Casey, both taken in the fourth round of last month’s NFL draft, signed their deals Wednesday. That leaves defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim, a third-round selection, as the only remaining unsigned Denver pick.
Coleman, who played at Washington, signed a four-year, $5.636 million contract, which includes a signing bonus of $1.256 million. His cap number will be $1.199 million in 2026.
Casey, who played at Boise State, signed a four-year, $5.599 million contract, which includes a signing bonus of $1.219 million. His cap number will be $1.189 million in 2026.
Since reporting for a May 8-10 rookie minicamp, Coleman and Casey had been participating in offseason drills under injury protection agreements.
Onyedim also has been participating under an injury protection agreement. A source Wednesday did not classify his signing as imminent.
Onyedim could continue to be on an injury protection agreement through offseason drills, which conclude with a June 16-18 mandatory minicamp. But he would have to be under contract to take part in training camp, which gets underway in late July.
Before the rookie minicamp, the Broncos signed four of their seven draft picks. Locked up then were tight end Justin Joly, a fifth-round selection from North Carolina State, and three seventh-round picks: Illinois safety Miles Scott, Utah tight end Dallen Bentley and Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock.
Burckhardt still in mix for Vikings’ GM
Broncos assistant general manager Reed Burckhardt remains in the mix to become general manager of the Minnesota Vikings.
A source said the Vikings will interview Burckhardt a second time for the position, with this one being in person. He interviewed May 12 by remote.
Burckhardt was promoted last May to his current Denver position after being the team’s director of player personnel for three seasons. He had been hired away from the Vikings in 2022 by Broncos general manager George Paton, who worked with Burckhardt in Minnesota for 12 years.
Overall, Burckhardt spent 13 seasons with the Vikings in a variety of scouting positions, including director of pro scouting. He had worked under Paton when he was Minnesota’s director of player personnel and later assistant general manager.
