Manitou Springs junior Addison Dorsey overcame the cold, the precipitation and the defending champion to claim the 2A girls golf crown Tuesday.

Improving five shots from her first round at Lone Tree Golf Club, Dorsey shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish at 5-over 149 for the 36-hole championship.

Last year’s champion, Colorado Academy’s Sophia Lee, finished second, two shots back.

Dorsey simply never left a path for anyone else despite Lee’s best effort with four birdies through her first six holes. The Manitou Springs standout went out in 35 on the par-36 front nine, eagling the par-5 fifth hole. She was 2-under when she teed off on 14, making the first of her two bogeys on the back, and she parred the final two holes to secure her first title.

“It’s been a long process, especially from freshman year to now,” Dorsey told CHSAANow.com. “This (state title) means a lot. Freshman year was kind of disappointing and, in a sense, last year was too, finishing second. I wanted to win, so it means a lot … especially with all of my family’s support and everything everyone’s done for me. It’s all of their work too.”

Dorsey and Lee, friendly rivals who flipped their spots atop the leaderboard from a year ago, recently qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball.

Lee left a mountain to climb after shooting an 80 Monday and certainly made things interesting, firing a 1-under 71 Tuesday.

Dorsey was the lone Pikes Peak region golfer in the top 25. James Irwin junior Ariel Aguilar was the closest at 34^th after shooting 59-over.

Woodland Park placed 11^th, leading area teams. The Classical Academy was 12th.
