Colorado Springs weather: Cooler temperatures, wet week ahead for many amid high fire danger for others
Colorado Springs residents can expect cooler temperatures with possible rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.
“We will continue to see a mixed bag of weather across central and southern Colorado early this week,” said Alan Rose, a News 5 meteorologist. “In the Pikes Peak Region and parts of the Arkansas River Valley (Monday) morning, we’re waking up to wet roadways and areas of drizzle and mist.”
Monday is expected to be overcast and breezy, with a high of 53 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, and a freeze watch has been issued for Monday night.
“By Tuesday evening, our next weather maker arrives,” Rose said. “This will bring a better chance of widespread rain into Wednesday morning. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will only warm into the 50s in Colorado Springs.”
Monument Hill could see a “wintry mix” on Monday, and parts of Teller County could have slushy roads, but most snow will be restricted to higher elevations, according to Rose.
Meanwhile, a red flag warning signifying high fire danger is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Las Animas and Baca counties in the southeastern part of the state.
On Sunday, the town of Campo in Baca County was evacuated because of a fast-moving grassfire. The fire originated in Cimarron County, Okla., KOAA reported. The fire was estimated Sunday at 28,000-plus acres with 5% containment.
