Monument police took three people into custody and were searching for a fourth suspect in connection with a shooting incident Saturday in the Jackson Creek neighborhood, law enforcement officials said.

“Numerous rounds” struck a residence, but no one was injured in the incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., police said Sunday in a social media post.

“The investigation remains active as detectives continue efforts related to the remaining suspect and any additional remaining charges,” officials said.

Police did not give a description of the fourth suspect or release the names of the people they took into custody.

Homeowner Kendra Tolowski, 40, resides at the property with her family, said she initially thought the gunfire was part of a dream.

“I thought I was dreaming at first,” Tolowski said. “It sounded like somebody was beating on our door downstairs. Then my kids came upstairs screaming and crying, telling me we were being shot at.”

Tolowski said bullets struck multiple areas of the property, the majority of which was concentrated on the home’s bedrooms. One also hit her pickup truck parked in front of the home. One also projected through the garage and came into the home.

Several family members were asleep inside the residence at the time of the shooting, said Tolowski, who had unknowingly avoided sleeping directly in the line of fire after moving to a different side of her bed in preparation of hosting a graduation party later that day.

“I never sleep on that side,” Tolowski said. “I did that night because I had laundry piled on the other side of the bed.”

Tolowski said she believed the incident stemmed from a personal dispute involving a family member.
