1 killed, 4 critically injured in motorcycle crash south of downtown Colorado Springs

One person was killed and four others critically injured after a motorcycle crashed into a vehicle early Sunday, Colorado Springs police said.

The collision happened at about 12:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue, according to an online blotter entry.

Investigators determined that the motorcycle was traveling south on Nevada “at a high rate of speed” when it struck a vehicle that was attempting to turn into a parking lot. The operator of the bike died at the scene. A second rider and three occupants in the vehicle were hospitalized and listed in critical condition.

Both lanes of Nevada Avenue were closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. The investigation remains open and active.

Sunday’s crash was the second fatal collision of the weekend. A motorcyclist died early Saturday in a crash near North Circle Drive and East Van Buren Street.
