LAKEWOOD – The Classical Academy not only looked like champions with their plaques, but the Titans sounded the part as well.

As TCA athletes navigated through the swarm of teams at Jeffco Stadium on Saturday during trophy presentations, copious amounts of clanging filled the air as Titan competitors wore their numerous medals collected throughout the three-day meet.

And, as many reached for their medals, they bore smiles, recognizing their success and the opportunity to celebrate another championship.

The Titan girls won their third consecutive 3A girls title and scored 119 points, 47 more than second place Berthoud, which earned 72. The TCA boys secured the runners-up trophy with 67 points.

“My teammates are so good and they put the work in this season and it’s exciting,” Titans runner Vivian Jack said. “To be able to capture the title again as a team is really exciting.”

The victory for the Titan girls means a move to 4A next season. In 2025, the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Legislative Council passed bylaw 1500.45, which, in TCA’s case, means a program that has earned three consecutive state titles will move up a class.

“I feel like this is going to be a really good challenge to be in 4A next year,” Jack said. “This is going to make us all better and we’re looking forward to it.”

This is the girls’ 14^th championship overall and fourth instance of winning at least three consecutive crowns. Their 2016 title came when the Titans moved to 4A and Tim Daggett, TCA coach, said he’s expecting the success to continue.

“We think we’re going to have a good team next year,” Daggett said. “We won a girls 4A title in 2016 when we went up for two years because of numbers. You always adjust to the new reality. There are fast team, but it’s one year at a time.”

For the boys side, Daggett said he believed they had the parts prior to the start of the year and was happy to watch them execute.

“It wasn’t that we lost, it was that they beat us,” Daggett said. “We had a lot of gritty performances and I’m proud of the guys. We had to rally and get at least sixth in the 4×400 to get second, so we’re celebrating this trophy.”  

Peyton boys win 2A championship

For the third time in four years, the Panthers reigned supreme in the 2A boys race.

Peyton’s boys captured the 2A team title with 70.5 points, outrunning closest contenders Sedgwick County (59) and Dayspring Christian (54). No other team scored more than 38 points as the Panthers dominated all weekend.

Caleb Kearse had the best outing for Peyton and earned 10 points for his victory in the boys’ 400-meter run, 6.5 more for a third-place tie in the 100 and six more for his fourth-place finish in the 200. Kearse also ran on the second-place 4×400 relay.

Peyton also had top-five finishes from Gabe Gatti (third in the 800, fifth in the 1600) John Finlay-Wagner (fifth in the 300-meter hurdles) and the 4×100 (third) and 4×200 (fifth) relays. It was Peyton’s fourth team title in boys’ track and field and third in the past four years (2023, 2024).
