There are no signs of foul play so far in the investigation of a body found inside a burning Colorado Springs home Thursday evening, police said.

The person was found dead by firefighters, who responded to the fire near Garden of the Gods Road at an apartment complex off of Spring Canyon Heights, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Department spokesperson Ira Cronin said the death “appears” to be unrelated to the fire, but they will know more once the coroner’s office makes its determination.

The fire was contained to the exterior balcony of a single unit and was knocked down about 20 minutes after firefighters arrived at around 7:20 p.m., according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department. No one was displaced, and the building’s structure was not severely impacted.

The cause of the fire and the death are under investigation.
