Boys volleyball regionals: Three Pikes Peak area teams set to host upcoming tournaments
Boys’ volleyball regionals begin this weekend and multiple area teams earned one of the eight top seeds in their class.
The Colorado High School Activities Association released regional brackets Wednesday morning and Rampart, Discovery Canyon and Colorado Springs Christian School will each host a regional tournament, which begin Friday and conclude Saturday.
Each region’s winner will advance to the state tournament, which starts May 7 at Trojan Arena in Fountain. The field of 48 teams – 24 in 5A and 24 in 4A – includes seven Pikes Peak region schools.
In 5A, Rampart (21-2) earned the four seed and will open its regional against No. 21 Bear Creek at noon Saturday. The Rams only lost 10 sets all season and dropped just five in April.
Discovery Canyon (19-2), the five seed, handed the Rams their lone April loss, has won six in a row ahead of regionals and has also only dropped 10 sets this year.
The Thunder will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against No. 20 Fountain-Fort Carson (15-8), which Discovery Canyon beat twice this season.
Colorado Springs Christian School (13-6) earned a regional hosting spot in 4A and secured the No. 6 seed. The Lions start the tournament against No. 19 STEM School Highlands Ranch.

Region 5: Mullen, Thomas MacLaren School, Gateway, 10 a.m. Saturday
Region 6: Colorado Springs Christian, Alameda, STEM School Highlands Ranch, 3 p.m. Friday
Region 8: Lutheran, Cañon City, Hinkley, 4:30 p.m. Friday
