Slamming sammies: Voters say these are the best in Colorado Springs

In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food and drink scene — as determined by voters in the 2026 Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too.

Up this week: Sandwiches.

Gold: Colonel Mustard’s Sandwich Emporium

Colonel Mustard’s was inspired by, yes, mustard. Not just any mustard, but sweet and spicy and tangy varieties that would deliciously pair with Boar’s Head meats and local, artisan breads. And … mustard ice cream? It’s just one surprise on a menu full of them. 1412 S. 21st St.

Silver: Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs

Since 2019, the Fort Collins-based brand has opened three locations in Colorado Springs — a clear sign of the “munchies” taking hold in this city. Yes, Cheba Hunt leans into the counter culture. But the term “toasted” here refers to the ovens, out of which nearly 30 different sammies emerge. 3171 N. Chestnut St., 5697 Barnes Road, 1856 Democracy Point

Bronze: Snarf’s Sandwiches

Here’s another deli dream born elsewhere on the Front Range that has been expanding in the Springs. And here’s another shop specializing in toasted takes on the classic likes of ham and cheese. The list heats up with prime rib, smoked brisket, steak and more. 1640 S. Nevada Ave., 7495 N. Academy Blvd.

Our recommendation: Shuga’s and Home Cafe + Bar

When Best Of voters pick two chains, we tend to pick two local spots. We have long loved Shuga’s, which slings a great Cuban and a chicken sandwich. And this other spot we only recently discovered inside the downtown Kinship Landing hotel: Don’t overlook Homa’s fresh, hearty sammies on local bread. Shuga’s at 702 S. Cascade Ave.; Homa at 415 S. Nevada Ave.
