Girls tennis individual regional tournament set to start Tuesday
The battle for a state championship begins this week.
Regional girls’ tennis individual tournaments will begin Tuesday with an opportunity to qualify for the upcoming state tournament, which takes place May 7-9 in multiple locations. The top two finishers for singles and doubles will advance to state.
The regional tournament was originally slated to start Wednesday; however, due to potential inclement weather this week, the Colorado High School Activities Association will permit host sites to start early to avoid potential delays.
Cheyenne Mountain is the only area school with returning individual state champions, as Rose Katen and Sophie Zhou each won singles titles last year. Red-Tailed Hawks’ No. 1 doubles pair Saffron Heroldt and Mary Koury also earned a title in 2025 and hope to defend their crown.
The team dual tennis tournament will resume with the semifinals after the individual state competitions conclude. Cheyenne Mountain, 4A’s top seed, will host Air Academy, the No. 4 seed, with a chance to play in the title round at Denver Tennis Park on May 12.
