8-acre fire under control along Fountain Creek near Pueblo Mall
Multiple fire agencies began mopping up an 8-acre fire along Fountain Creek on Wednesday, approximately three hours after it began, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media.
As of 4:30 p.m., the Target fire was 65% contained, according to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office.
Heavy smoke was visible from the fire near the 29th Street and Hart Road around 1:30 near the river bottom, prompting Pueblo police to ask the public to avoid the area around the Pueblo Mall. Dillion Drive from Colorado 47 to 29th Street was closed to traffic for about an hour.
Officials reported firefighters were mopping up the area around 4 p.m. No structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.
Firefighting crews continued monitoring the fire throughout the night.
