Man arrested in Fremont County for alleged sex crimes after similar acts in Colorado Springs
A Fremont County man was arrested and faces 61 counts related to allegedly sexually assaulting and exploiting a child, approximately five months after he was charged with the same crimes in Colorado Springs.
Stephen King, 65, of Cotopaxi turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Office on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 14 following a monthslong investigation.
Colorado Springs police had initially obtained an arrest warrant in their case on July 23 and informed the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 15 that additional crimes may have occurred within their jurisdiction.
As a result, deputies found evidence to charge him with aggravated incest, sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse, 58 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and obscenity.
King was set to appear in front of a Fremont County judge for an advisement of his rights on Tuesday afternoon.
In El Paso County, court records show King posted a $50,000 bond on Aug. 18. He faces:
- Four counts of sexual assault of a child while in a position of trust.
- Three counts of sexual assault of a child as a pattern of abuse.
- Three counts of incest of a relative under 10 years old.
- Two counts of aggravated sex offense.
- Two counts of a violent crime that is a sex offense.
- Sexual exploitation of a child.
- Two counts of attempted sexual assault of a child while in a position of trust.
- Attempted sexual assault of a child.
His jury trial in the El Paso County case is set to begin on June 8.
