Spring means love is in the air, or if not love, at least the mating cycle of birds everywhere, who search for mates, lay eggs, hatch chicks and safeguard their babies until they can fledge come late spring.

In addition to my beloved live osprey and red-tailed hawk cams via Cornell Lab (allaboutbirds.org/cams/hellgate-ospreys), I’ve discovered Friends of Big Bear Valley’s bald eagle live nest cam. Located in the Big Bear Valley in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, it tracks the adventures of Jackie and Shadow, a local bald eagle pair, in their nest about 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine tree. This year, the two have a pair of adorable eaglets. Watch them online at friendsofbigbearvalley.org/livestream. – Jennifer Mulson, The Gazette
