Cheyenne Mountain girls’ tennis earns 4A’s top seed, team tournament begins Wednesday
The Colorado High School Activities Association released team brackets Monday for the girls tennis tournament, and Cheyenne Mountain once again leads the bunch.
Cheyenne Mountain earned 4A’s top seed and the Red-Tailed Hawks are one of seven Pikes Peak region teams to qualify for the tournament, which begins Wednesday. The higher seed will host through the semifinals. Finals take place May 12 at Denver Tennis Park.
The Red-Tailed Hawks will battle for a repeat and their 27th girls team title in history. From 2007 through last season, the Red-Tailed Hawks captured 14, including nine in a row from 2009-17.
Rampart looks to play spoiler as the Rams earned the 16 seed and will head to Cheyenne Mountain at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
In 5A, Pine Creek is the lone area representative and the Eagles secured the No. 15 seed. The Eagles face back-to-back state runners-up and No. 2-seeded Cherry Creek on Wednesday.
As the team tournament begins this week, the individual state championship will start May 7 and, weather permitting, conclude May 9.
