There’s a poet inside each of us, just waiting to throw together a haiku or iambic pentameter.

April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate, the fifth annual Pikes Peak Poetry Summit will once again offer performances by local poets and workshops for beginners to experienced writers.

The free event is 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Manitou Art Center, 513 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

Poet Ken Arkind will open the summit with a reading, followed by the workshop, “Sounds About Write,” with poet Andrew Ziegler.

Other workshops include beginning poetry with Orion Capela; a youth workshop, “Lines of Connection,” with Lindsay Deen and Beth Arrowsmith; and “What’s Your Love Language,” with Irina Amouzou.

Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Ashley Cornelius created the summit as part of her tenure. This year’s event is co-presented by Poetry719 and Poetry Heals.
