Biaggi’s closes permanently in Briargate

After months of work to address what restaurant officials called “extensive and compounding” soil erosion and plumbing issues on site, Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano in Briargate has permanently closed its doors.

“With a heavy heart, we are sharing that our Colorado Springs location will not be reopening and is permanently closed,” a post on the restaurant’s local Facebook page late Tuesday morning read in part.

“Over the past several months, the restaurant has remained closed due to extensive plumbing and soil erosion issues. We held onto hope that we could welcome you back, but unfortunately, the scope of repairs required makes that no longer possible. We are incredibly thankful for (23) years of support, celebrations and memories shared within these walls. It has truly been an honor to serve this community.”

The company had no further comment on Wednesday.

The restaurant at 1805 Briargate Parkway, in The Promenade Shops at Briargate, announced on its Facebook page in early November that it was temporarily closing for an extended period to make “major repairs” to the facility, citing plumbing issues and soil erosion as the causes.

As repair work continued, officials discovered the plumbing and soil issues were more extensive than first believed, and the restaurant needed to remain closed for repairs, they said in a Facebook post in February.

Patrons shared their laments about the permanent closure on Biaggi’s Tuesday post. Many encouraged the restaurant, owned and operated by the company, to find an alternative location where they can reopen in the Springs.

“Our family has enjoyed numerous meals/celebrations since opening in (Colorado Springs) … We were one of the first to have the pleasure to dine with you before you opened fully to the public 23 years ago. You will be missed! Biaggi’s butter and all!” wrote Patti Gahren.

The Bloomington, Ill.-based Biaggi’s is known for its house-made and imported pastas, soups, salads, pizza, seafood, steaks and more. It was founded in Bloomington in March 1999 and has since grown to 15 locations in eight states throughout the Midwest and in Colorado.

Biaggi’s sole Colorado location remains in Loveland at The Promenade Shops at Centerra, 5929 Sky Pond Drive.
