Two people are in the hospital after a driver lost control of their vehicle and hit them at the Walmart near The Citadel mall Thursday afternoon.

Preliminary findings from the Colorado Springs Police Department show the car hit the two pedestrians as they were walking through the parking lot and then struck two parked cars while the driver tried to regain control.

The pedestrians were taken to a local hospital with “serious” but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. At this time, neither speed or impairment appear to be factors in the crash.

Other crashes in Colorado Springs over night

One person was seriously injured in a rollover crash at the intersection of Peterson Road and North Carefree Circle just after 1 a.m. Friday. According to police, a blue Ford Fusion was driving north on Peterson Road at a “high rate of speed” when it ran a red light and hit a black Jeep, causing it to roll over multiple times.

All parties involved were taken to the hospital. At least one person had serious injuries. Impairment and speed appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

Another overnight crash happened in the 400 block of South Nevada Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. The wreck caused the southbound lanes to be closed at East Costilla Street for around two hours.

A driver involved in the crash was arrested after allegedly trying to flee the scene on foot. Police said the driver hit landscaping and decorative concrete work along the southwest corner of the intersection before his car rolled over in the roadway. No injuries were reported.
