Air Force defenseman and captain Chris Hedden had an excellent season, and Friday was the exclamation point. 

The senior, out of Kalamazoo, Mich., was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association’s East All-American second team at the Frozen Four in Las Vegas, Nev. 

Hedden, who also claimed Atlantic Hockey America’s defenseman of the year and first-team all-conference honors, is the first Falcon to be named an All-American since defenseman Tim Kirby in 2012. He is the fifth player in program history to receive the honor. 

Hedden led Air Force in scoring with 34 points on 12 goals and 22 assists. His points total is tied for third in the nation among defensemen and his 12 goals are tied for second in the country among blueliners. 

He was named AHA defenseman of the month in November and earned conference defenseman of the week honors five times this season. He was also named the Hockey Commissioners Association’s national co-defender of the month for November. 

Additionally, he was one of two Falcons to sign an amateur tryout and played professionally in the American Hockey League. Hedden played for the Colorado Eagles, the Colorado Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, against the San Diego Gulls on March 17. 

Fellow senior and captain Mason McCormick played two games for the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, the top affiliate of the Nashville Predators.
