A little wicked, a lot of Broadway: Colorado Springs Philharmonic to present sinister scores
With haunting organ melodies from “The Phantom of the Opera” and soaring anthems from “Wicked,” eerie ballads will intertwine with the dramatic rise of strings this weekend.
Bringing Broadway’s most infamous villains to life, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic will present sinister scores in “Wickedly Broadway.”
Offering a night of music inspired by some of the stage’s most memorable antagonists, the Pikes Peak Center will host the concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Despite its name, the concert is not a production of “Wicked.” Instead, it features a collection of songs from multiple Broadway musicals, highlighting the melodies tied to characters that audiences love to hate.
Led by conductor Thomas Wilson, the performance will showcase vocalists Josh Franklin, Gina Milne, Anne Terze-Schwarz and John T. Wolfe, whose voices will carry the drama and edge that define Broadway’s more defiant roles.
“We can’t wait to share this deviously delightful program with audiences,” Wolfe said. “The music is sinister and fun, rooted in Broadway’s most menacing characters you love to hate. Gina Milne, Anne Terze-Schwarz and Josh Franklin are among the best vocalists I’ve ever heard. Paired with the brilliance of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, this is not to be missed.”
Considered an entry fee to the dark side of Broadway, tickets range from $37 to $202, offering audiences a chance to embrace their wickedness with a night of mischievous music.
