Easter, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is the culmination of Christian faith. It also serves as a universal call, to all humanity, to embrace new beginnings and the promise of a brighter future.

Most of the world’s Christians observe Easter today; some following the older Julian calendar will celebrate a week from now. For all of them — as well as other Coloradans and Americans — Easter marks anticipation of an emerging season of hope, renewal and the triumph of life over death.

In this sacred season, we find inspiration not only in our faith but also in the positive currents sweeping across our nation and world, suggesting that we stand on the cusp of a profound rebirth.

Easter’s message should resonate deeply in us this year even amid conflict, military and otherwise, abroad and at home. This 26th year of the 21st century is a milestone prompting reflection on our progress and aspirations. 

Over the years, humanity has achieved remarkable feats despite calamities. We have witnessed technological leaps, global connectivity and a growing recognition of our shared destiny. Indeed, only days ago, NASA launched its first human-piloted Moon mission in generations — a testament to the upward trajectory of humankind.

Yes, we have also faced trials — political polarization, economic challenges and wars — each straining unity. Acts of hatred and violence continue to mar the human record.

Yet, Easter reminds us that even in the darkest moments, resurrection is possible. This day offers a beacon of hope for our nation and beyond.

National and global events illuminate the path forward, bringing us together as we laud achievements and celebrate historic dates. The recent Milano Cortina Winter Olympics gave America and especially Colorado much to cheer. Our nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence this year — along with Colorado’s 150th anniversary of statehood — offers precisely such a rallying point.

Economically, there’s encouraging news, too. Economists foresee a national economic growth rate of about 2.4% in 2026, driven by strong productivity and resilient consumer demand. It affirms human resilience and innovation. In Colorado, businesses and entrepreneurs mirror this spirit as they adapt and flourish in a dynamic world of artificial intelligence — a powerful tool that can be a force for unprecedented human advances.

Easter calls us to prayer. Not just for personal renewal but for a world transformed by peace and prosperity along with physical and mental health. 

In churches across Colorado, Christians will gather to celebrate this holy day, united by faith and hope. And Easter’s message extends beyond places of worship, urging us to set aside political differences and embrace a shared vision.

The resurrection of Christ teaches us that hope can emerge from despair, that light can follow darkness. This Easter, let us carry this truth into our lives, our communities and our world. Let us pray fervently for an era where nations and their peoples work hand in hand, where prosperity lifts all, and where peace prevails.

This Easter, let us embrace the prospect of renewal. The signs are all around us: global innovations, the unity of international athletic competition and the benevolent power of our resilient economies.
