Dennis the emu is turning 5 years old, and the beloved flightless bird will soon be celebrated at Acacia Park.

The bird has been a source of comfort for owner Billie-Sue Michael since 2021, when she adopted him following the sudden death of her younger brother.

Dennis, also known as Dennisaurus-Rex, has spent the past five years hiking around Garden of the Gods, strolling downtown and amassing more than 40,000 followers on TikTok, slowly becoming somewhat of a local celebrity avian.

His fifth birthday party is scheduled noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, according to a Facebook event page.

Card-making and appearances by superheroes from the Mile High Multiverse are scheduled, among other activities.
