A potential threat called into Twain Elementary on Wednesday morning prompted Colorado Springs District 11 officials to place the school on lockdown in coordination with police, according to a spokesperson with the district.

The school had downgraded its lockdown to secure status and later resumed normal operations within 40 minutes of the call. Police told The Gazette there was “no reason” to suggest the threat was credible.

An increased security presence will be at the school out of an abundance of caution, the spokesperson said.

The lockdown comes one day after a juvenile “brandishing a weapon” on the grounds of Cheyenne Mountain District 12’s Skyway Park Elementary prompted a nearby shelter-in-place order from police.

Officers later recovered a BB gun made to look like a replica handgun, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to a blotter entry by Colorado Springs police.
