Colorado Springs weather: Possible record-breaking heat Monday, more high fire danger
Another day of record heat and red flag fire danger is on tap for Colorado Springs on Monday, but things should cool down as the week progresses, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.
“The work week will begin hot, dry and gusty,” said News 5 Meteorologist Alan Rose. “Several heat records will be in jeopardy today, from Colorado Springs to Pueblo to Alamosa.”
Monday is expected to be partly sunny with a high of 79 degrees. If the high is reached, it will edge out the March 30 record of 78 degrees, set in 2010, National Weather Service data shows.
A red flag fire warning has been issued for areas of southern Colorado on Monday, including Colorado Springs and Penrose, as firefighting crews continue to gain containment on the 24 fire. Colorado 115 was reopened to traffic on Thursday, and containment had increased to 86% as of Friday morning.
Pueblo’s weather week is set to be the usual warmer than Colorado Springs, but the pattern should be similar: Hot and dry on Monday, with a high of 85 degrees, which would break the March 30 record of 83 degrees set in 2010, according to Weather Service data. Temperatures are expected to drop to the lower 70s on Tuesday.
A cold front will drop highs to the mid-60s in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, with a chance of rain showers in the late afternoon and evening, Rose said.
Here is the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. A 30% chance of showers after noon.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Showers likely, with a thunderstorm possible after noon.
Thursday: Sunny and breezy, with a high near 68. A 20% chance of showers after noon.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59 degrees. A 30% chance of showers after noon.
