From the early 1960s to the early 1980s, there was a little top-rated daytime TV game show called “Match Game.”

Host Gene Rayburn would skip out from behind a panel to greet six celebrity panelists and one or two contestants, before asking the whole group questions with fill-in-the-blank answers. Everyone wrote down their answers, and when the contestant was able to match their answer to the celebrity’s, they earned points and cash prizes.

Bob Morsch loved that show and decided to recreate a Colorado Springs version of it at the Millibo Art Theatre, 1626 S. Tejon St. “MAT!ch Game” is at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $16; themat.org.

This is the fourth iteration of the show. Morsch will host games monthly through April and potentially return in the fall.

“I was always attracted to improv comedy,” he said. “The panelists were always funny. They always worked a little blue, as much as they could get away with on daytime TV, and that appealed to me.”

Morsch acts as host, and his six panelists this time will be radio host Kendra Carr; actor Sammie Joe Kinnett; stand-up comedian Derek Knight; actor Michael Lee; singer Kiera Lynn; and actor Anne Stewart.

Four contestants will be selected from the audience. To compete, indicate your interest at the box office before the show. Four names will be drawn. Contestants can win prizes from local businesses and gift certificates.

Game questions run the gamut, from ones Morsch has written himself to questions from old episodes of the game show that he’s rewritten to update pop culture references. Some are from the panelists.

“Some examples are, ‘When Jack got to the top of the beanstalk, he was shocked to find the giant (blanking),” Morsch said. “There are Halloween-themed ones. And a couple of characters that recurred in questions in the original show. One was Dumb Dora.”
