Bruce Brown was kind enough to give his teammate a pass.

“That (crap) is terrible,” Christian Braun said of Brown’s new look after the Nuggets beat the 76ers on Tuesday.

Braun was referencing the new handlebar mustache Brown debuted about a week ago. So far, it hasn’t come up in the on-court dialogue.

“Not at all,” Brown said. “I’m not the one you want to talk trash to.”

Denver’s reserve guard debuted the look last week against the Thunder on March 9. He scored in single digits in the first three games before growing into his new cowboy credential, scoring 12 points apiece in Denver’s last two games, while going 8 for 13 from the field, 4-6 from 3-point range and 4-4 on free throws. Brown has continued to tip his imaginary cowboy hat to the opposing bench after hitting a 3.

That left Braun with one concession after a comfortable win over Philadelphia.

“You’re playing good,” Denver’s starting shooting guard said.

That stretch of productivity ended with a thud in Denver’s 125-118 loss Wednesday in Memphis. Brown missed all four of his shots from the field, including a couple of 3-pointers, and split his only free throws. He finished with one point, one rebound, two assists and two turnovers in 20 minutes of playing time, as Denver dropped a costly game against a team on the outside of the playoff picture.

Brown said it’s the product of an agreement with a friend. His buddy’s girlfriend was hoping her partner would rock a ‘stache. Brown upped the ante.

“I was like ‘If you get the mustache, I’ll do the handlebars,’” Brown said. “So, that’s how it happened.”

The on-court results have been mixed. Whether that’s enough to get Denver’s fan favorite to change up his look remains to be seen.

“I actually like it,” Brown said. “I might keep it for a little bit.”

GRIZZLIES 125, NUGGETS 118

What happened: Memphis led by one after the first quarter and held on for a 60-60 tie at halftime. Denver fell behind by eight to start the fourth and failed to complete the comeback, dropping to sixth place in the Western Conference with a 42-28 record.

What went right: Christian Braun and Cam Johnson continued their hot streaks. Braun scored 26 points on 19 shots with seven rebounds, five assists and four assists. Johnson scored 20 points on 13 shots thanks to a 5-for-6 mark on 3s.

What went wrong: Denver finished with 19 turnovers, which helped the Grizzlies finish with 27-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Nikola Jokic had an otherwise productive night – 29 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists – undone by 10 turnovers.

Highlight of the night: Jokic spun away from a double team late in the second quarter and threw a pass to Tim Hardaway Jr. in the opposite corner. Hardaway hit a 3 and drew a foul that was upgraded to a flagrant. Denver led by three after a six-point possession.

Up next: The Nuggets return to Denver for Friday’s game against the Raptors.
