A 77-year-old man who was hit and killed while crossing Wahsatch Avenue at Costilla Street last Tuesday was identified as Anton Gerhard, Colorado Springs police announced on Monday.

Gerhard was walking westbound on the north side of the intersection when a truck hit Gerhard while turning left onto Wahsatch. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police do not believe impairment is a factor in the crash.

There have been nine traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs to begin the year, which is eight more year-to-date than in 2025. There have been 59 traffic fatalities in the past 12 months, according to police.
