Colorado Springs weather: Potential record-breaking heat this week
Following a quick hit of snow on Sunday and a chilly Monday morning, Colorado Springs is set to return to unseasonably warm conditions this week, with several temperature records poised to fall, according to Gazette news partner KOAA and the National Weather Service.
Temperatures were in the 10s and 20s across the Pikes Peak region early Monday, with single-digit wind chill and flurries in some areas, said News 5 Meteorologist Alan Rose.
But conditions will warm up in a big way later in the week, with “the potential for all-time record breaking heat in Southern Colorado,” Rose said.
Monday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 48 degrees in Colorado Springs. Tuesday’s high will be around 72 degrees Fahrenheit, just two degrees shy of the March 17 record of 74 degrees set in 1908, according to data from the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Conditions will get warmer as the week progresses, with potential record-breaking temperatures late in the week, Rose said.
“The peak period of heating will occur from Thursday to Saturday.” the News 5 meteorologist said. “Daily heat records are likely to fall each afternoon during this period as afternoon highs climb into the lower to middle 80s.”
Here is the rest of the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:
