UPDATE: 5 displaced after fire spreads through Colorado Springs apartment

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says at least five residents have been displaced following a fire at an apartment complex Saturday afternoon on the city’s northeast side.

The fire was reported just after 2:15 p.m. at Union Heights Apartments on Nightingale Drive and persisted for almost two hours before it was snuffed out, according to an update from the Fire Department. Firefighters contained the flames to two apartment units, but five units were damaged in total.

No injuries have been reported, the Fire Department said.

“The fire was fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. Please be fire safe!” the Fire Department said.

Crews will be on scene through the night to ensure the fire doesn’t rekindle. The blaze’s cause is under investigation.
