The best soup in Colorado Springs, according to Best of the Springs voters
In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food and drink scene ー as determined by voters in the 2025 Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too.
Up this week: soup
Gold: La Baguette
The Old Colorado City staple whips up a French onion soup that has been warming bellies and soothing souls since 1984. Loyal patrons break the cheesy, crusty top and dig to the bottom of the hot crock, best enjoyed with a scratch-made French roll. Scratch-made is the promise here, along with “simple, hearty and delicious.” 2417 W. Colorado Ave.
Silver: Shuga’s
The hip, cozy hangout downtown is all the more cozy with its spicy Brazilian coconut shrimp soup. It’s a bowl bursting with flavor: The shrimp swims in a broth of coconut milk, peanut, jalapeno, ginger, lime and cilantro, topped with black sesame. It’s the favorite but not the only soup here out of the small kitchen that is big on creativity. 702 S. Cascade Ave.
Bronze: The French Kitchen
The French Kitchen seeks to spread the joy of French cooking, and it does so with a long list of classes. Yes, there’s seasonal instruction focused on soups ー French onion along with cream of lentil, cream of carrot, potato leek and more. Get a taste yourself; the dine-in menu includes a soup du jour. 4771 N. Academy Blvd.
Our recommendation: Shuga’s
That spicy Brazilian coconut shrimp soup might be our favorite spoonful of anything in the Springs. Even better: the menu’s “add a twist” option, which fills the bowl with ramen noodles, chicken, mushroom and roasted red pepper. Bonus points for the cocktails, adding cool and sweet to the hot and spicy.
